Gerçek ismi, Seyyid Muhammed bin İbrahim Ata olan , Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Horasan’ın Nişabûr şehrinde 1281 senesinde doğdu.
İlk eğitimini Şeyh Lokman-ı Perende’den aldı. Lokman-ı Perende, Ahmed-i Yesevi’nin halifelerinden olup, zahir ve batın ilimlerinde derin bilgilere sahipti. Bektaş Veli Lokman-ı Perende’nin gözdesiydi. Ve rivayetlere göre kendinde olağanüstü haller gerçekleşiyordu.
